About

Southern Tour's story

Southern 4WD Tour is a small company focused on providing safe and easy short tours to some of southern Tasmania’s most beautiful scenery and pristine environments, ranging from stunning white beaches with crystal clear water to alpine forests with gigantic tall trees, secluded fern glades and a mosaic of plant communities.

Your driver/guide has an extensive background in off road and 4WD travel throughout Tasmania and around mainland Australia. He was recently employed as the professional precision driver for a new Chevy Silverado Trail Boss advertisement filmed in Tasmania. He has a strong science background and a broad knowledge of our local flora and fauna. He is also a former surf life-saver with formal first aid qualifications and is triple vaccinated.

Southern 4WD Tour is a wholly Tasmanian owned and operated business; run by a company incorporated in Tasmania in 1988.

The Vehicle

Your transport for the day is a well-maintained Toyota VX Prado 4WD wagon, renowned as one of Toyota’s most reliable and luxurious vehicles.

It has efficient air conditioning, comfortable leather seating, tinted windows, centre console fridge and on-board Engel car fridge that can run as a freezer if necessary.

It has high quality all-terrain tyres that allow us to travel safely during all weather conditions and off-road as necessary.

Back-up batteries, at least one spare tyre and a first aid kit are carried at all times.

What to wear and bring

Tasmania regularly experiences 4 seasons in one day so passengers may choose to wear summer clothes (with sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat) when appropriate, but should always bring warmer spares with them (including a beanie) and a light raincoat (or collapsible small umbrella) is highly recommended.  In winter, severe wind chill and freezing temperatures can often be experienced so thermal clothing is beneficial and layering is suggested to allow for appropriate clothing to be worn during travel in the vehicle.

Sturdy shoes or walking boots are highly recommended to keep your feet dry and ankles
supported for our short walks but please ensure they are free of plant material and dirt before the trip.

A small daypack is also very useful to carry your lunch and drink, camera, raincoat and warm clothes during our walks.

Accreditation

Southern 4WD Tour (Aquatech Australia Pty Ltd) has Passenger Transport Operator Accreditation in Tasmania and is an accredited Tourism Business under the Australian Tourism Accreditation Program (ATAP) with Tasmanian Quality Assured status.

Accredited Licenced Commercial Visitor Services (CVS) operator with the Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife Service.
