Travel north-west past Bridgewater and onto New Norfolk. Continue on past the Salmon Ponds to Westerway and enjoy a delicious morning tea beside the river at the Possum Café.

Take a packed lunch and continue along the river and into the Mt Field National Park. Wind our way up through the tall trees on the Lake Dobson Road and stop at the Moorland Mosaic to learn about some alpine plants.

Continue on to Lake Dobson and walk around the scenic lake and enjoy lunch in the Pandani Grove beside the lake.

Return to the car and travel back down the road viewing the Tall Trees and Russell Falls if desired, and time permits.

Travel back to New Norfolk where we can partake in a great afternoon tea or other refreshment at the Patchwork Café.

A visit to the Salmon Ponds and cafe is possible if passengers prefer, on the way back to New Norfolk.

Depart New Norfolk and return to Hobart along the river.

Important Information

Southern 4WD Tour’s day trips depart from Hobart and return to the same pickup location/collection point.

Within several hours, passengers can experience world-class natural environments including spectacular coastal scenery and pristine alpine regions and still be back in time for a delightful dinner in Hobart.

Such locations usually require some travel on gravel roads, and your tour vehicle is ideally suited to this.

As we plan to carry a maximum of 4 customers, tours can be adjusted to cater for specific interests, wildlife and culinary delights as necessary.

All trips incorporate some outdoor walking which is generally quite easy. Customers should wear or bring appropriate outdoor clothing for Tasmania and be suitably healthy and fit to enjoy these walks.

The full daily tour fee is applicable whether there are 1, 2, 3 or 4 customers. If customers request a tour with less participants, this may be available for a reduced cost under certain conditions – however, requests for tours with less than 4 participants are approved only by special arrangement.
